“BorrowMe is as much about what we are as how and why we do it. As its primary leader, I help set the tone. Here is my aspiration and my active intention for BorrowMe and the growing team around it:

We're a small creative group on a mission to change the way we shop, and relate to our stuff. We think business is a way to express our ideals – not a venue where we are forced to compromise them.

We try to keep it real. We're a bit bold, we believe in punching above our weight and taking chances. We stumble often, and try again.

We believe that even a small company like ours can change the world, even in a small way. But we also believe that there are many of you out there who believe like we do, and that a trickle can sometimes signal a flood.

We're pragmatic because we know there's more to life than stuff - but we love our gadgets, and our comforts. We believe in enjoying the great products that enrich our lives - without extracting the true cost from someone or something else.

Yes - we value convenience and self-sufficiency - but it has led us down a path towards isolation and worse. Sure - we can make it on our own. But we prefer to do it together.

Our eyes are wide open. We know that sharing possessions amongst friends or even strangers invariably comes with some risks. Rarely can change be made without it. Before EBay few believed that we could all buy and sell over the Internet with relatively little risk. We are cautious, smart and optimistic, but not scared. You can decide for you.

We know that sharing is looked at with suspicion in some circles. In contrast - we believe that synergy is what happens when independent, conscientious people come together to help themselves and help each other. It transcends the financial and material autonomy of our near history, and the marketing myth that sold us on private ownership as the high water mark of all human achievement.

We only live once, and frankly not for very long. Try to make a difference while you're here. Prosperity is important, but it isn't just about the money. It's about doing something that matters. It's about doing something that resonates with both yourself and the people you care for.
